Cultivating Our Next Crop of Leaders

Swiderski Equipment is proud to support our FFA students in various ways throughout the year, but we especially enjoy the WI FFA State Convention Career Expo each year!  The Career Expo provides students a chance to learn more about career opportunities in agriculture and often plants the seed for students to understand there are a wide variety 6-21 2of jobs in a company like Swiderski Equipment. While we have continuous needs for skilled employees in roles like service technician, parts specialist or sales consultant, students don’t often think of a company like ours for careers in fields such as marketing, IT, human resources, office administration, and management. But the opportunities are truly endless for those with the right attitude and work ethic.

Those of us who are fortunate to grow up on a farm know the definition of skills like 6-21 3hard work, perseverance, and team work. Anyone involved in supervising or hiring employees understands the value of these skills and we often hear how difficult it is to find employees who possess these traits. How many of you have heard your grandfather utter the expression “kids these days just don’t want to work anymore!” It’s been our experience that stereotype is blown apart by the students who proudly don those blue and gold corduroy jackets!

We’ve attended the state convention career expo for several years now and continue to be impressed by the motivation and determination shown by the FFA students.  Not only does their enthusiasm show through in the award ceremonies, but you genuinely can see it shine in their faces when they talk about the livestock herd they’ve been growing since they were 8 or the agronomy project that has now turned into a profitable retail outlet in 6-21 4their community. The stories of our local youth working hard are amazing, and the drive and excitement these students have for the agriculture industry can be inspiring to any of us!

We truly believe the FFA program is teaching and growing our next crop of leaders, for both our business and the agriculture industry. It was especially fun this year to see so many daughters and sons, grandchildren or nieces and nephews of Swiderski employees!  It’s great to see so many customers’ children eagerly participating in the activities and being rewarded through various awards, scholarships and acknowledgements. We congratulate all the participants!

6-21 8.jpgAs many of you already know, if you do what you love and love what you do, you’ll never 6-21 5.jpghave to work a day in your life! Encourage the youth in your life to think outside the box for career options. Inquire about potential opportunities with companies like Swiderski Equipment. Job shadow someone to see what a particular company or career is really like. You never know what you may learn and it’s often surprising what opportunities are really out there. I was once told a slightly different version of the “love what you do” saying.  A wise, experienced individual told me “Find your passion….and then figure out how to get paid for it. Then you’ll really never work a day in your life!” Seems like good advice for youth of any age!
